Boys
Shoes — Soft shoes (pumps) and heavy shoes (hard shoes/jig shoes).
Uniform — Black trousers, black shirt, and a black waistcoat.
Appearance — Hair neat and off the face.
Girls
Shoes — Soft shoes (pumps) and heavy shoes (hard shoes/jig shoes).
Uniform — Solo Dress, Class dress or black dress with white poodle socks.
Appearance — Hair to be worn in a school‑approved hairpiece.
Craobhghrád is the fifth and highest competitive grade in the CRN system. Dancers at this level demonstrate exceptional technique, strong musicality, powerful heavy shoe rhythms, and confident, expressive performance quality. Steps are complex, stamina demands are high, and dancers are expected to show maturity, artistry, and precision across all dances.
Competition Dances
Craobhghrád dancers perform the full range of advanced light and heavy dances with championship‑level complexity and performance quality.
Light Dances — Reel, Slip Jig, Single Jig
Heavy Dances — Heavy Jig, Hornpipe
Traditional Set Dance — A traditional set is required at this level (e.g., The Blackbird, Job of Journeywork, Garden of Daisies, Three Sea Captains, depending on readiness and teacher guidance)
Dancers at this level show exceptional control, stamina, and artistry.
Special Award Rounds
Major CRN events such as the Regionals and the Irish Open offer a Craobhghrád Award.
The Award typically includes reel/slip, Traditional and set dance unless otherwise stated by the event.
Progression: A dancer who wins 1st place in the Award may move up to the next level in the dances performed.
Award rounds at this level test mastery, confidence, and high‑level performance quality.
